1. Talk - Drone photography - Gromit Room (4th floor SU) - Tuesday 27th Feb, 18:30
In this talk, Jamie will be talking about drones. Regardless of whether you've ever used a drone or not, find out how they operate and see images from a different perspective. Discover different models of drones aimed from beginner fliers to professional use.

In this talk, a DJI Mavic Pro will be on display and a flight simulator will be available to test your piloting skills. Come see if aerial photography/filmography is your next step forward.

Join us on Tuesday at 18:30, in the Gromit Room.

2. Change to competitioms
Photosoc’s Six Week Challenge!

Competitions like never before! Starting this today (Sunday 25th Feb) Photosoc’s Six Week Challenge begins. Each week, on Sunday, a competition will be set in one of following three categories: Portrait, Landscape, or Artistic Impression. Submissions will be accepted each week with a prize handed out every Tuesday!

Portrait: Aim to capture the essence of a subject in a photograph. Whether a formal photoshoot, candid shooting or street photography show off your subject, tell a story!

Landscape: Show us the world, from vast mountain ranges to sprawling urban cities. Capture the spirit of the environment that you’re in.

Artistic: Be creative, express yourself – take the theme of the week and go anywhere.

Here is the list of upcoming competition themes:

Week 18 - Portrait: Street

Week 19 - Landscape: Reflection

Week 20 - Artistic: Minimalist

Easter Break - NO COMPETITION

Week 21 - Portrait: Faceless

Week 22 - Landscape: A tree

Week 23 - Artistic: Bold colour

---------------------------------

3. Current competition
Week 18 Portrait: Street

To start things off, get out and about in Bristol and capture the people of the city through your lens. Whether you find an interesting background and wait for the right person to come along or approach people directly, try your best to capture the individual, look for eye contact (or not!), and think about the surroundings.

Take inspiration from the many street photographers you can find online, from Sun Lee (http://www.zunlee.com/streetportraits) to Josh Adam Jones (https://www.joshadamjones.co.uk%29/).

Every Sunday, entries for the coming week will open, with entries closing on the following Saturday. To enter send your photos to competitions@ubuphotosoc.com

The entries for the first competition “Portrait: Street” will be accepted from Sunday 25th February to Saturday 3rd March, with results announced the following Tuesday.

---------------------------------

4. No BTP Social this week
Just to remind members BTP socials are every other week. There is no social this week but there will be one next week (7th March).

---------------------------------

5. AGM
The AGM is going to be BEFORE Easter this year as previous committees feel this is likely to get the best attendance. There will be DOMINOS and we really hope to see as many members there as possible.

A list of positions can be seen on the website and if you have any queries please speak to the committee at out talks or email me - president@ubuphotosoc.com and I will be happy to help.

I knew little about photography before taking on my role as president, all you need is a bit of passion so please consider being a committee member for 2018/19.

---------------------------------

6. Workshops
Jamie Corbin is kindly running two workshops for us. These will be held on 4th and 11th March so please save the dates if you are interested in learning more about using lightroom to edit photos and much more!!

More details to come - keep an eye on facebook for these.
