One of the most important things about taking photographs is getting loads of people to see them, and here is your opportunity to get the exposure and recognition your photos deserve. This is the official launch of the Grand Annual Photosoc Competition!

The Competition

The way this will work is that from now until the end of the spring term a new theme will be announced fortnightly. You will then have exactly two weeks to submit your photos. Entries are limited to ONE per person and must fit the theme, however feel free to interpret it as widely as you like. Winners and runners up of the heats will have their photographs displayed in our sparkly new permanent display in the Union foyer; and there's more - the first prize winners will also receive an enlarged print of their entry. Points will be awarded for the top 10 photos submitted and these will accumulate throughout the year until the Grand Exhibition extravaganza in the summer term. The member with the highest number of points will be awarded Best Photographer, there will also be a panel of judges that will award a Best Photograph from a shortlist of point winning photos from the whole year. Winners will receive amazing prizes...to be revealed later!

Points System

Submission

Your photos must be submitted electronically, that is to say that if you shoot on film you will have to scan your photos onto a computer and then send them to the submissions address below. Photosoc has all the facilities for you to do this in the digital darkroom AKA 'The Penthouse' on the sixth floor of the students union and its free, so no excuses! Both landscape and portrait photos will be accepted but make sure you send a high quality image of at least 2400x1600 pixels (4MP) so we can get some nice enlarged prints made. For those of you that are unsure how to use the Penthouse kit we'll do our best to run an open office at the end of each theme so that you can turn up and be shown how to use it all and submit your photos.

Please send all photos (maximum of 1 per person per theme) to: competitions@ubuphotosoc.co.uk

Take photos and win prizes (and please don't submit your photos late - they will not count) Happy snapping!

PS. A note about judging - we will be looking for creative interpretations of the theme as well as technical ability and originality. Don't be afraid to enter if you are unsure of your ability, its not just the most professional looking photos that will win but the ones that are fun and inspiring too! Not to mention that we will be giving out a multitude of prizes at the end of year event for example "most improved" and "best portfolio" so even if you feel like you're not getting many points you will still get plenty of recognition.
