AGM: Get involved!

Posted on 05.03.08 by Anthony Seale.
Dear Members,

The time of the year has come for us to hold our AGM. This is when we vote in the new committee. If you think you might like to get involved in running Photosoc, this is your opportunity to make your ideas come to life. The AGM will be held at 7.00 pm in the White Bear (133 St Michaels Hill, BS2 8BS) on the 28th April. As a member you may vote on who will get contested positions, without running for one.

Where we are now:
Over the past 3 years Photosoc has grown from a little piece of paper on a fresh stall with Photosoc scrawled on it and three committee positions to one of the Union's largest societies. This expansion has brought 10 committee members, an amazingly interactive website, an events team, exhibitions, a digital darkroom, more trips, talks, better darkrooms, coffee socials, more equipment and many other things. Personally I think next year's challenge will be to keep all this organised and active and improve member participation. I'm sure there will be new ideas too. Photosoc needs an enthusiastic and dedicated new committee for 2008/09.

The present committee has many people on it who will be graduating next year so many committee roles are completely open for taking! We need some new people to bring fresh enthusiasm to their roles. Your commitment will include attending weekly meetings on Mondays at 6pm in the union for about an hour plus everything that is specific to your position.

How to run:
If you wish to run for a position please email us at least 3 days before the AGM. You need to let us know: your name, the position you wish to run for and why you feel you'd do a good job. Send this to vp@ubuphotosoc.com. You can run for more than one position, but may only take one in the end (some positions may be combined). You will have approximately 1 minute to speak on why people should vote you in, followed by one or two questions. If you can't make the meeting you may send in something to be read out on your behalf at the meeting. Contested positions will be determined by vote of all present Photosoc members.

See the AGM '08 page for positions and descriptions.

The society can be amazing and it's your turn to run it!

Anthony
(Current Vice President)
